Version 4.96 released.

Post by ArtF »

Hi All:

While preparing for the next module I have added a timing mark feature so you can track the syncron state of gear trains.
Youll find a checkmark in the sim panel next to the reverse checkbox. It defaults to off, and when turned on displays ribbons
from the gears zero positions at original placement position. You can then get a feel for how things are syncronising as the simulation
runs. This works for circular gear types only. No other direct changes from yesterdays release o if you dont need this feature, no need
to switch till later.

Re: Short Survey.....

Post by ArtF »

Hi Again:

As I said in the last post Im about to start the next module, but on reflection its not
terribly important to me exactly which of the following is done next. If you have a prefererance
from the three, pls let me know. I know some may want specifics like bevel machining, but I really
need to complete GT so I can get rid of GM. So from these, which is preferable..

1) Non-Circular Gears.
2) Hypocycloidics
3) Casing/Boxing.

Im leaning towards noncirculars, but its complex and could take abit of time to get
it right, so if you find you want #2 or #3, pls kick in and let me know. #3 is probaly easiest and fastest,
while #2 is somewhere in the middle in terms of complexity. As with all the modules in GT, it
will be written to do more or at least do better compared to GM's module.  If your an offline kind of
person but would still like a say, just send your opinion to support@gearotic.com.

Hi Art,
My vote is for Non-circulars - i actually use that module a lot.

I know I'll use the other two as well but I can wait for them.  I'm looking forward to casing/boxing but I can go into Aspire and do my own, but your's works better for me.

John

PS In gearotic thought,  the rim ratio, leg ration and boss ratio words don't appear on my CNC screen  the variable boxes do and they do their work but the labels beside them aren't there.  It could be my clunky old screen on my CNC because they are there on my "designing" computer.  Maybe there is something I need to change in the configuration of the CNC computer? Windows XP home version.

1) Hypocycloidics
2) Casing/Boxing.
3) Non-Circular Gears.

From a sales/marketing point of view, Hypocycloidics come up a lot at cnczone in discussions about DIY 4th axis and other low backlash gearbox situations.

1) Non-Circular Gears
2) Casing/Boxing (you said easiest and fastest)
3) Hypocycloidics

It's a tough call between 2 and 3, but quicker wins.

And for a wild thought, perhaps a cam (the kind with followers, not computer aided manufacturing) module somewhere in the future.

Its a resolution issue, if you use more than 1024x768 all labels show up.. Im searching for a solution..

lol, Well keep voting. So far Id have to say its about equal. A good point was made that hypocycloidics come up a lot in discussion
on the web.. I know many like to use non-circulars.. and boxing IS handy.. :)

As to the suggestions.. Grasshoppers will reappear likely shortly after those 3 are done. CAM's are going to be done around that time
in their own module as will STL's of various bearings. Not to mention 4bar linkages which will require quite a bit of time as well as its a topic
that truly can be very large and as complex as noncirculars. I touched on many items in GM that will require a lot of effort to do right in GT..

Anyway.. Ill probably take a few days before deciding as I need to investigate a few things first...so yell if you want to influence whats next.

Hi Art,
I wish I had a 4th axis machine or a 3D printer then bevels would be more interesting to me, but stuck with 3 axis my choices are limited and thus my vote for non-circular.

Hi All:

This version has been updated online. A lockup caused by enetring text into the module or DP fields is repaired.
Simulation time is now cubic exponential and statistics are shown based on the users systemic interrupt responce time.
This starts at about 36 degrees per scond, the slider however will now vary from about .3 degrees per second to a max of
about 3600 degrees per sec.  This change is implemented to smooth out responce across systems so the simulation is more
realistic even on faster or slower systems than mine. You current sim speed as displayed will now be shown on the screen as well.
Sorry for all the updates, but Im trying to clear up things that have bothered me or others while I prepare for the next run
of coding.

Hi All:

The non-circulars have it. Ive started the coding. Cant say it will be real quick as its a very complex
subject matter. I can only promise that many many puppies will die before all is said and done.
Back at you when the module starts to be usefull, or for bug fixes.

Thx
