Large Plastic Logarithmic

Post by DHelmick »

Large Logarithmic I cut on my CNCRP 4896 ..
Cut from 3/16" Plexiglas.... overall dimensions are 20" x 16"...going to cut its mate tomorrow....

Turned out  perfect...only problem was the TP direct from GM caused bad jerking when the teeth were cutting....had to slow from 120 IPM to about 40..

So I copied the DXF into Cut2D ...tested the results..(air cut) and it was super smooth....

Hi:

Nice gear. Was that the GCode that was making it jerky or a dxf?

Saved from Gearotic cnc output...
If I saved as a dxf and run it thru Cut2D it cut perfectly smooth??

Hi:

Yes, there is probably a smoothing option in the Gcode from Cut2d. Since this topic was made, there is now a smoothign filter
in use on noncirculars in Gearotic that should make it far better. I use Mach3, so the CV routines smooth such things out.

Make sure in Mach3 you set a good lookahead.. 100 lines or so...
