Forum webpage issues
Forum webpage issues
Hi All:
It was reported to support that a user couldnt reach this forum, an error
was reported asking you to report an error number to an administrator.
I found I had the same problem so assumed it was a provider issue. The problem
seems to be an issue with cookies for the site. If you were logged in when certain
changes happened at the providers end, your cookies can stop you from entering
the page.
Deleting cookies will fix the issue. Sorry for any trouble, and yes, I realize if you
read this your unaffected, but Im hoping if it happens in future having read this
may trigger a memory to delete your gearotic site cookies.
Thx

Re: Forum webpage issues
And if you use ccleaner, and have a cookie deleting exception for *.gearotic.com, that won't fix it until you remove the exception or use the browser's cookie deleter ::)

its worse than I thought , now i need to delete cookies every time I access forum on all browsers :( :'(
Re: Forum webpage issues
Hi Guys:
It seems to be the login cookie that corrupts.. if you log out before leaving, it doesnt seem to occur..
The provider is working on the issue.

Hi All:
Quote from the provider service..
Your ticket number regarding this issue is xxxxxxx; 13509873613324654253 is the Support ID which we use to search for the error code. The issue is not related to cookies, but to an internal issue, which is currently being worked on in ticket xxxxxxx. We will contact you once the issue has been resolved. I am sorry for the inconvenience.
So hopefully the issue will go away shortly.
Sorry for the troubles.
Thx

Re: Forum webpage issues
I wonder if it's a good time to think about updating the forum software, after a full backup of course.
SMF is up to 2.0.14, we're on 1.1.11 and it says (c) 2009.
I'm not familiar with SMF so I don't know if that's a 2 minute or 2 month task.

Kirk:
Id agree, but it isnt under my control, the provider runs the forum code, I suspect their comfortable with it so dont bother updating it..
They did offer to offload the forum to from their common forum server, but I suspect theres more risk in that than its worth. The
forum is backed up and repaired by them when it gets into trouble..
SO Im afraid we're stuck with this pretty outdated module..

Re: Forum webpage issues
Hi John:
Yes, we've had some trouble. The provider was arguing it was my code, I was arguing it was his
and we were at an impass for several days. They found the problem apparently as it started
working again yesterday. We are looking at a possible forum upgrade to a newer type
with more modern features.
Sorry for the hassles, it did take awhile to solve and its mostly due I think to the old
code on this forum now many years old.

Re: Forum webpage issues
It came back for me, too.
So they were blaming the problems on old code and old codgers?

and they think driverless cars are just around the corner
Re: Forum webpage issues
Forum was too old I suspect, their forgetting how it interfaces. I'm hoping to be able to upgrade to a phpBB style
forum. So if you see it go down, dont worry, just temporary.

They are! Let off the parking brake, put them in neutral, and jump out. They just haven't perfected automatic steering and braking yet.Richard Cullin wrote: and they think driverless cars are just around the corner
One of our employees did just that a few years ago. The truck went around a corner, down a hill, and ended up in a garage, although it went through a wall instead of a door
