Equation of Time
Equation of Time
A thought about a feature. I spent a while figuring out a spreadsheet to generate the G code for cutting an Equation of Time cam. Not many people make clocks with an EoT "complication", and it isn't useful unless you want to set your clock by the sun, but them mechanical clocks aren't necessarily useful anyway! I'd be happy to supply my spreadsheet to anyone, but it would make more sense to have the algorithm in Gearotic perhaps?
Re: Equation of Time
Hi John:
To be honest , I hadn't heard of this cam type.
I'm reading up on it now that you've brought it to my attention,
I cant promise Ill add it, but Ill certainly look into it. The equations
dont look hard to implement as a cam generator.
Thx for the idea, I always like exploring new concepts..

Re: Equation of Time
Thanks Art, and also Kirk, that website is cool!
Generating the cam is slightly complicated by the fact that the follower for a clock is probably going to be on the end of a pivoted arm which drives a pointer - you have to allow for the fact that you probably want the pointer scale to be linear in minutes, as well of course for the diameter of the follower pin.
