Re-Doing an escapement

Post by John T »

Hi Art,
I've been doing a re-cut on a clock. I want to use the same frame plates and cut gears that will fit into the existing arbors. The calculator on the circular screen does this perfectly for the wheels and pinions.

Is there a similar calculator for an escape wheel and pallets?  The work around that I'm using now is to change the escape wheel diameter and then use the measure tool to see if I have the correct centre to centre distance. This is rather clumsy and not all that accurate.

Am I missing something?

John:

It wont do it for escapements..BUT, you can figure it out I think by using a
linear relationship to the diameter you enter on the screen. Lets say you have a required
center distance of 4.5" , but when you enter a escapement of 4" ( for example) you end up
with a center distance of 3.2".  You can use the ratio of 3.2 / 4.5 and multiply that by
the 4" you entered for 4 / (3.2/4.5) = 5.66. The center should now be 4.5 ..
Havent tested this, but I think it will work off top of head..
