Greeting
here a beginner with auggie software.
need help how to connect pokeys 57cnc with k40 power supply? I mean wires. i am using auggie version 3.7 which communicates with pokeys 57cnc.

Hi;

I suggest you first review these 3 tutorial video's,  Auggie Laser Control Intro tutorial, Auggie 3D Laser Control tutorial, and Auggie Laser Operation tutorial. Our YouTube links can all be found here https://www.gear2motion.com/laser-setup

Cheers

Hi:

There is a few posts on a K40 wiring in the Auggie section, go the forum home screen and enter K40 as a search term, youll find
several posts on how others have wired their machines. K40's can vary in their makeup from what Ive seen. Usually it takes
a bit of hookup to convert the signals.

sorry i was busy. if i understood correctly i need to pokeys57cnc connect laser trigger to step pulse motor 8. and PWM4 to pin18 pokeys57. i have another question whether step laser ignition should be inverted or not. if need be if the software or do I need hardware-inverted signal.

Hi:

You dont need to use step motor 8 for connection to anything, the stepmotor 8 display shows motion
during shooting only because that channel is used as the pwm control word internally for the pwm channel
real time control you use to trigger the laser. You can use any of the 4 pwm channels to do the actual control.

If I understood correctly PWM turns on the laser only a small amount of time to get a percentage of the power.
And the pot still determines the max output power. Which means that I need to connect to a PWM contact shooting laser.

It is important to keep the Pulse Repetition Frequency below 20kHz (to protect the laser switching electronics) but I have had no problems connecting the 57CNC?s 5 Volt PWM signal directly to the TTL(L) input of my CO2 laser, although I did hardware invert the signal as described here; http://gearotic.com/ESW/FavIcons/http:/ ... 131#p13131

Tweakie.

Tweakie. I can't tell from the picture which transistor you used

Almost any NPN switching transistor would do. I used a ZTX304 because that is what I had to hand.

Tweakie.

base? emitter? collector = gnd, resistor 1k ohm, base 1k om resistor -PWM from 57cnc, emiter to L fire laser? did i get it right?

I appreciate that the operation of my signal inverter circuit is perhaps not easily understood so I have attached a diagram.
(It was done this way so that it could be used in circuit with the ribbon cable and not require an additional power source).

Tweakie.

If you remember i has the same problem on my laser source , some residual voltage without connection , and very low impedance , like 60R . Strange chinese source
and i fix it with a specialised DAC and op-amp to force the source down to 0 without change my square wave . You schematic was my first try but the power wasn't lineary .
error of my stupid source + transistor error + optocupler error for me was not working i expected.
Unfortunately i didn't draw a schematic  :(

Thanks
