HIYA ART, Is it me or is the DXF drawing not fully exploded as to all the parts showing seperated ?

I may have to give this a try with a plasma cutter and cut out 1/4 " alum plate (;-)

Terry:

All the parts are shown twice..first with all on top of each other in proper placement, and secondly each part is randomly placed by itself around the top of the drawing..
(Or thats how it should show up.. )

Hi guys:

Just a note, if anyone needs the drawings in some other format, EPS or whatever, ask here and we'll try to do so,
I use VCarve so the .crv file is there, but some I know may have trouble with DXF's.. so if e can help you out..
feel free to ask.

HIYA Art, I may be blind but I see shapes in the assy that are not shown outside and shapes outside that I don't see in the assy.

Would love to cut it out .

No, all parts in the consolidated overlay shoudl be shown on the outside. My work flow is that each time I add a piece I add it to the
overlay and leave it on the outside to be cut. I use GT for all the GCode except for the back and small items..but everything should be there..

( Anyone should feel free to yell if they find they need something or are curious as to what I used a piece for.. :)

Hi Guys:

The download file has been updated with Winder gears, and sections for each part you need to make. Files are now in dxf, eps and AI formats.
Ill leave it to those that need pdf to convert the dxf to pdf themselves as I dont have a pdf converter handy..

Have fun

Hi Art,
Thanks for the youtube video.  Its always great to see how someone else tackles problems that have challenged me on some of my projects.

Its really a sad day when I don't learn a bunch of new stuff.

I been busy but not so busy that I did make time to d/l the updated files. I plan to build one. I do have a question. You used wood. I was thinking about using acrylic 1/4" plastic and laser cut it. Do you see a problem?

I was tempted to do the same. I do think it will work BUT it may be hard to properly lock the "gears" to their shaft.. you need a pretty posative lock on the impulse pallet to its shaft. Of course Im sure you can come up with a solution for that, and I cant think of anything else that would preclude it working..

Hi Art,

Thank you so much for sharing your design with us.
I'm very tempted to build one as well and have a couple of questions :
- Are all the .dxf files supposed to be cutted out of 20mm material ?
- Would it be possible to have a couple of side views (drawings or pictures) of the complete assembly so we can understand a bit better the relationships between the parts
- Is everything that you have been using with metric dimensions ?
Thank you very much for your answer

Most of them. I dont measure my material prior to cutting. I generate all paths usually for 20mm thick cutting  ( 3/4 inch) and then
if the baord is 22mm's, I just zero into the wood by 2mm..if its 15mm I zero 5mm above the material. This way I dont have to continously
run back and forth regening Gcode for various wood.

- Would it be possible to have a couple of side views (drawings or pictures) of the complete assembly so we can understan d a bit better the relations hips between the parts

I never do this beacause as above I never know how think things are. The human brain instantly figures out things from te actual thickness faster than I can
make a computer code for that, so thickness in tickers is not important. Watch the photos in the video carefully, youll see there is almost no need for side views
because the pieces will only really fit in one way..

- Is everything that you have been using with metric dimensions ?

Yes, I use only metric so scale by 25.4 if you use standard..

  Thx

Art, I am trying to build Scimitar. I have cut most of the components on my CNC, however, I could not locate the gear g-code. I tried to generate the gear g-code using Gearotic Motion but was unable to create a file without collision. Is there any chance of you adding the gear g-code to the download?

I was planning to build a simple clock until I saw Scimitar and became hooked!
