Maximum tool diameter in 3-Axis CNC

Post by Mainstore »

Hi All

Somewhere I saw, either in my pokings around in Gearotic itself or in one of the tutorial videos, that the 4 axis workbench tells you the maximum tool diameter that can be used for that particular gear design.

Is there a corresponding feature in the 3-Axis CNC workbench? Looking at the toolpath gives a hint but doesn't give a definitive answer. For some profiles, for example a pulley, where the root shape is very important, a cutter a couple of thousandths too large can make a big difference.

Kevin:

The diamter limitation is actually a 3d limit thats display, but it generally corresponds to th 3d one, so I display the same number
in each. In fact my list tells me to modify the 4thg axis one in near future. SO ..select a gear on the main project page, the text near the bottom left
will tell you the diameter limit. (This is true only on involute gears though.. because its computed as part of their design math. ). Pulleys I dont yet list,
they require a computation that isnt yet done. So...use the simulation to make sure the pulleys looks right...
