Gotta get up there some day. My wife, like all wives worldwide, still talks about that Alaskan cruise she wants to take. :)

Art,

Most people really enjoy the trip. The inner-passage cruise is really nice. I've done parts of it and enjoyed a very relaxing trip.

I must ask this question, I have checked *Notify me of reply" at the bottom of each post as well as ensuring the box is populated in the profile and still I get no notification. If I didn't continue to check, I would have never known that you had posted your messages. What do I need to do to be notified  that a response has been posted?

Hi Art,

I have no spam folders and no blockers. I'm using Internet Explorer 8.

To obtain the programs which will function on Win 7.0 would be cost prohibitive so I am currently happy running Windows XP Pro.
Harold,

Just a thought, but through their Creative Cloud subscription plan you can have Adobe's latest and great for photography for $10 a month. If you've never used Lightroom, it's a fantastic piece of software.

Additionally, spent about 8 years living in Alaska. I miss it a lot.

Good Morning CJ,

Thanks for your reply. I do have Lightroom but I have found that in my hands Adobe PS is better for what I do. I began using Adobe PS in the late to mid 80?s and over the years I?ve grown quite comfortable with Adobe PS. My ?love affair? with PS evolved with PS?s evolution throughout the years.

One of my long time passions is Large Format (LF) photography. Though I began with Small Format (SF i.e., 35mm SLR) in the early 60?s, I graduated to MF (Hasselblad) and ultimately transitioned to LF work (4x5 and 8x10 sheet film). Naturally, there was no digital photography during those years thus my product was generated in my ?wet lab? (which I still use today). I began digitizing sheet film in 1999 and as the quality of scanners improved, I transitioned to better scanners with their evolution. I enjoy my ?alone time? in the dark room but the convenience of scanning sheet film and further processing via computer has become more frequent (probably because I have grown lazy).

Though I cling to conventional photography, simply because I see this as a form of art and craftsmanship that?s quickly being lost today, I do have a Digital Lab and several quality SF and MF digital bodies which I use more and more but only out of convenience. At this time, and in my opinion, there is nothing that rivals a fully articulated LF camera so I still use the LF for Landscape and Industrial images.

Where did you live in Alaska? Since I returned to the US (retired from service), the vast majority of my time in Alaska has been shared between the South East (Prince of Wales) and South Central (Anchorage and Wasilla). For a slower pace of living I prefer South East Alaska. I hope to soon be in a position to build a fishing lodge on POW (Prince of Wales). I really enjoyed the lifestyle on that island.

Harold,

I moved to Anchorage in late 2004 and then spent 8 years (minus 3 winters) in state. I moved up there with the intention of learning to fly and pursue a career in that, which is precisely what I did, having gained about 2,000 hours of time in state. A year of that was spent in Juneau working for a smaller company there. You can see some of my phto work from that time here.

I never made it down to POW in that time, the farthest south I ever went there (aside from a ferry trip to Bellingham) was Wrangell. I knwo some guys from there and who fly there though.

That $10 subscription I mentioned includes both Photoshop and Lightroom. I briefly did some LF (4x5) in college, that's a lot of commitment you have there! My origins in photography are also pre-digital, and there's something to be said for learning in a wet darkroom. I also got to do some color work using a C41 processor.

These days I pine after a Canon 6D. Nothing like a full frame camera that'll geotag all your images for you. Canon has also released a 50MP SLR body recently, and as I'm sure you're well aware, you can get a MF digital back onto a 4x5 camera if you're still a glutton for punishment. ;)
