Some advice from a seasoned gearhead please

Cutting some spur gears using laser and 4mm 1/8" ply just to get use to G2
Then I want to create an escapement

About a year ago tried to create a recoil escapement sort of worked but never very reliably

The questions
What is the most forgiving escapement ? I am guessing a ticker using a chrono recoil

If that is the case I am making it very difficult for myself if I approximately half the size the mechanism that Art used in Scimitar ?

Any other tips for a successful escapement appreciated

Ian:

  I found on my laser, all three escapement types worked rigth out of the box with no modificatiosn needed.

Mine are usually about 6" wide... ( I have big fingers. :) )
