Gearotic on virtual/cloud computer?

Post by Mand »

Has anyone used Gearotic on a cloud or virtual desktop service? If so, which one and how did it work out?

...I've switched laptops to an M2 Mac Air, and Gearotic is the last application I haven't brought over to the new computer. I gave CrossOver a whirl, but didn't have much luck, so I'm thinking about getting a "cloud PC" to run Gearotic (rather than keep my old PC laptop around solely for Gearotic). I'm kinda leaning towards AWS WorkSpace since the pricing is exceptionally low (their calculator estimates I'd need to pay them 9 cents per month), but I'm interested in any of their competitors.

Bit of a longshot, I realize, but I figured I should at least ask!

This is probably a bit over the top but, if you would prefer to keep it all in house, have you considered creating an image of your existing computer and running it as a virtual machine on your new computer or on a NAS ( network attached storage ) ?

My apologies for raising up an old thread, but for the benefit of anyone else considering the matter -- I ended up going with Parallels installed locally on my M2 Mac, Windows 11, and Gearotic installed just fine. I haven't run full simulations or anything, but I noodled around for a while and nothing exploded so it seems like this may work (I was expecting the ARM-vs-Windows-vs-DirectX-vs-Mac stuff to freak out somewhere along the way).

...in the intervening years Microsoft has NOT made it easier to get a cloud PC as a solo person, so I gave up. I'm pretty sure the corporate cloud PC stuff would have worked, but they refused to let me pay for it.
