Ok group - nothing special -just a 2nd and a 3rd order elliptica l gears - created in Gearotic Motion r3.8.
But they are my first gears produced with the program!
They mesh fairly good - but I need to put a bit of backlash into the gear system (ie space the shafts a bit further apart).

Thanks to Art and Bob - for the wonderful program - and all the help...

 Thanks for the feedback and enjoy gear cutting. BTW did you use the side plate template from GM to get your shaft centers?

Bob,

I used the  Project Database tab --> Selected both Gears by Ctrl+ gear name - and then used the displayed value for "Center Dist"

I think this is an absolute value - and does not take into account if you are using an endmill to cnc the gears in a flat plane (completel y understan dable).  So next time I need to add 0.050 or something to the center to center distance.

I machined the gear with a 2 flute 0.125"dia bit.  I will keep track of the necessary offsets with each diameter bit - so that I can sort of develop a table of necessary offset/backlash.  I will most likely cut all of my gears with the 0.125" dia bits, though.

Anyone want to layout the Clayton Boyer Clock "Genesis" (was on the cover of  "Scroll Saw Woodworki ng & Crafts" magazine, Spring 2011) ?

  Im hoping to add a full clockwork s to the sample projects when I get an escapemen t done.
Actually, it was my original plan..its just taken me this long to get there. Smiley

That will be really nice when you get it done! 
I am intereste d in driving some gearotic motion gearworks with a pendulum and a Grasshopp er Escapemen t (its visually neat to watch, as well as being historica lly significa nt..).  Sort of a Geared Kinetic Art Mechanism .

I plan on building a 4th axis rotary for my milling machine this year - just never seems to be enough time.
(of course - if I had a 4th axis - I could make the timing gears for the fourth axis with this cool program you've written.. . Smiley

Keep up the great work Art (and Bob)  -  I love it!

Id love to adda grasshopp er parametri clly, but Im totally unsure as to how exactly to do that. Smiley

The Grasshopp er done parametri cally would be beyond Ueber-Cool... that's for sure

I'm still trying to figure it out ( I have various books by John Wilding, articles from Horologic al Society, spread sheet I put together. .. a spreadshe et someone else put together. .. etc.) - And I'm still confused.

I'm going to build the one that is in the John Wilding Book "The Construct ion of a Wooden Clock", and see if I can drive a few gears off of a pendulum, weight, escape wheel and that escapemen t. 

I'll be happy to share my work with the group when I get it done (if I get it done and working).
Sure do enjoy the GM program, Art (and Bob).   Almost as much as Mach3 (and I'm digging into LazyTurn too...).
So keep up the great work, and looking forward to seeing the future revisions .
