Art, "  Hitting the >> button... ....." are you referring to the >> that is lower left of the screen? If so' on my windows 7 screen when pressed it toggles tool bar options. Also when gearotic design is open it suppresse s my windows hidden  tool bar and I have to retrieve it by pressing windows button on the key-board. When I move  gearotic to my second monitor, the tool bar on the first monitor works as normal. Hope this is relevant. Dan

Correctio n, I found the >> button in the project data bar where it works. I do not see it in any other bars, ie.spur gears etc. Dan

Dan:

Its meant to only work on the project screen. All the other bars are not required , ( except when making a helical or bevel
) so they shrink. I didnt remove them as I have some plans for them, but they purposly shrink away to make sure you have as much screen as you can have.
Johns photos above are exactly the way it should look...ex cept for the lack of text which is kind of a mystery to me at the moment as all my text works fine. Other than that though his screens look pretty good.. and is what you should see.

I think the new screens look and work much better as ar as intuition of use, but we do still have a few bugs before Ill call the new GIU done..

Thanks Dan:

It will become the new standard as soon as I clear up the remaining bugs, or bugs yet to be reported. Smiley
I also plan to add a gear calculato r for "what if" type of jobs.. Smiley

Hi Guys:

Dev version has been updated to 3.002 , it applied differing values for spur and elliptica l gears so they each have their own spoking data. This reduces the weirdness in spokes.. They are now much as they ever were.

The spoking still needs to be totally redone, but this at least gives you the
usual spoking proceedur e.

Remember two things about the new GUI to reduce confusion ..

Double clicking a tab on the ribbon will toggle autohide of the ribbon..
and the panels sliding in is normal if they have nothing to currently contribut e to the operation . Screen real-estate as a result is 20% wider than before so the visual effect is much better.

Now if I could just figure out why that damn Stevenson gets no text.. Smiley

Anyone else not seeing text on the display?

Another curiosity, opened the samplepro g.gprj the sun and planet gears, put a handle on the sun (middle) gearshaft and the shaft did not extend to the handle and the handle turns opposite the gear even at 1 rpm. Dan    (windows 7)

Hi Dan:

Sorry about that, that sample was made with a very early version, so its normals are backwards on the gears. Ill update the sample next release.

Art,

You generate a gear, take it to output manager and it generates the code.

Would be nice if there was a quick link to take you to the file instead of having to leave the program, go to my computer and locate the file.

Vectric has a button to load the program directly into Mach, how about the same and a view file button ?

John:

Fair point.. I think the only reason I dont do it now is that the files tend to be output
as a batch of files.. but I realise that many ( like myself) mainly put out one file at a time when cutting.. .

So Ill add a button to the output manager that sends the Gcode file produced to Mach3 for opening after creation. You want an editor button as well to send it to notepad as well?

Art.

I clicked the "Spur Gear" button on the buttonbar at the lower left of the screen.  Now your new tabbed tool ribbon has been replaced with the old interface .  How do I get back to your new (and improved) layout?

*** UPDATE ***
I reinstall ed and all is well.
