Hi All:
Version 2.253 is online as the secondary download. Its been online since last Thursday or so, but Ive now verified the operation of the bevel gears Helical output.
Photos are atatched that show the first helical bevels done. They are in foam and Im limited due to tilting problems on my table. Ill leave the bevel code alone now for a bit while I complete some other work on GUI cleanup. After a generaliz ed GUI cleanup and some other things I need to do Ill look at further additions to the programs capabilit ies.
Id be intereste d in any completed bevel test runs, we may need to modify here and there, but the output looks pretty good and the gear appear to mesh quite well.
Thx Art

Art,
Looks GREAT! Thanks for all the hard work!
The Gcode looks like it will make REAL gears, not just foam. Some additiona l optimizat ion would be good but GM 2.253 looks like it IS generatin g usable code for bevels!
I started working on adding a stepper motor to a dividing head that I can rotate to any angle. My current "A" axis cannot be rotated up and will require a complicat ed setup. This will let me make gears in steel or other metal. Then we can do a real RUNNING gear set test.
I hope you can get the tapered endmills working after you work on the graphics. I still want to be able to do small gears, that will need much smaller endmills or tapered endmills.

Chuck:
Ive been looking at the taper issue, while Im not sure, they may be possible. Ive also looked at roughing and I think perhaps a separate file with just a single tool roughing of whatever they can take.. It wouldnt save much time, but woudl keep your bit sharper..

I suspect Johns just busy with life. They ARE a bit of a pain to make due to the blanks required. We'll see some appear soon enough I suspect. I also suspect many of us who "thought" they could tilt the axis easily, are finding as I did that its problemat ic due to gantry interfera nce and such.. Art

You are not wrong there Art. My little Boxford just does not have enough height and I am undecided if making a low profile toolholde r would help or not. Tweakie.

I have an on going problem with about 5 customers trying to compete for ijit of the month. Unusually all are in line for a tie break for 1st place. Rolls Royce crack detection dept after spending 18 months trying to plan a workshop move have now decreed it should happen THIS WEEK. My bit will be done but I'm not telling them the electrici ans are wiring the WRONG BUILDING up ......... ......

Tweakie: Yes, I know what you mean. As one envisions it, they all tilt pretty easy, but when you try you find that little indexer is wider than youd think, when tilted it tends to interfere on most small systems. Likely Johns is fine, but Im limited to a 0-30 degrees or so on most gears. On the other hand Im pretty happy with the ones I CAN do. so far.. Art

Yes I think I'm fine to go on most things using the Sieg X3, that's the older manual machine converted to CNC not the dedicated KX3. I have to option of this converted BS0 dividing head. Or using the 4th axis rotary table laid onto a tilting table, I'm guessing the tilting table / rotab will use less real estate as i can dispense with the chuck, mind you I don't have to use the chuck on the BS0. Just time at the moment and ijits.

John; That does look like the right tool to cut bevels, can I find this at Walmart? Cheers Bob

Status update..
Justa note o what Im up to.. The rewrite of the GUI is well underway. The menu system is currently being redone with swappable top menus and much better readabili ty of options and settings.
I have several plans now to clean this all up to make the program much more professio nal in appearanc e now that we've proved the concepts. Thanks for your patience, Ill release a version when the cleanup is about done and before I set about the next stages, so you can comment and help steer the final look of the process..
