The animation s are good for seeing how systems work and the indicator s are very helpful but you can get a much clearer understan ding by being able to choose your point of view.

eg standing on a gear watching how everythin g moves relative to you.

What do you think?

So that the gear your on appears stationar y and you care looking at the point of contact.  Makes the maths behind combinati ons of gears much more obvious.

eg suppose you construct a Ferguson Orrey the master gear is fixed to the turntable .  From the point of view of a person on the master disc the gears will orbit and the nodes and positon of the moon will appear to lead and lag.  Suppose its more fun to build it.
