1  General Category / Newest Rev Release / Re: 3d printer stls from GT on: April 13, 2013, 01:34:33 PM
Art,

On the CAD front I use Solidwork s. I use the 2D DXF profile from GM which I then Extrude - I don't change anything and it works perfectly - just one command!

I must admit, however, to enormous difficult y using the 3D DXF from GM. So much so that now I don't even bother trying.

Like the idea of using the resistor to control the nozzle heat. On the UP Printer forum there are many requests for user control of the nozzle temperatu re via the software. Perhaps we'll see it with a future release.

Art/John,

I bought my UP Plus last August and haven't looked back since. A recent firmware upgrade now allows a resolutio n of 150 microns. I bought it from Denford here in the UK.

At present I'm using it to make telescope parts. My next project is to make a rack and pinion micro focuser.

Art,

Your explanati on reminds me off the De Vinci CVT (constant velocity transmiss ion) idea. Apparentl y Leonardo had been working on something similar hundreds of years ago which didn't need teeth only spheres and planes. These guys at http://www.fallbrooktech.com/ have an up-to-date product you can fit on your bicycle.

Is this a suitable future developme nt for GM or with the world ending tomorrow (according to the Mayans) is it something worth putting on the backburne r for a few hundred years.

Hi Art,

Thank you your comment

its likely normal as one end of a bevel is wider and higher than the other as a result of the diminishi ng radii of the base circles

I think this is the answer I was looking for. I'll continue with exporting 2D dxf profiles from GM into Solidwork s and tapering the extrusion to form the epicyclic bevel gears.

Apologies for the incompreh ensible English I've only been learning it for 66 years.

Hi ,
I recently bought a turret (tower) clock which I'm restoring and have been using the epicyclic gear generator to generate 2d dxf profiles which I have imported into solidwork s for further CAD work before making them.

I now have a bit of a dilemma when I wish to generate epicyclic bevel gears for import into solidwork s. As gearotic motion seems to work only with spur bevel gears I decided to use a none bevel 2d epicyclic dxf profile which I imported into solidwork s. I then extruded this profile to produce a none bevel gear. I then used the "flex/taper" command to generate the bevel shape. This worked absolutel y fine but when I looked in detail at the tooth profile I observed a slighly bigger/broarder profile at the wider end of the bevel than at the other end and began to wonder if this was normal for all bevel gears. Perhaps someone could enlighten me if this is correct - geometric logic would say yes to me but is there an "engineeri ng" fiddle going on?

On a slightly different tack I have had no success in importing 3d dxf files into solidwork s which I can then edit and do a bit more CAD with . Has anyone managed to successfu lly or should I stick to the 2d dxf route?

Merry Christmas to all.

Hi Art,

Thanks for the response.

I have attached a PDF from Brecoflex .com  which on page 8 visually shows the differenc es between TN, TSE, T0, AT, ATSE and AT0.

Hopefully it will help identify a future addition to this wonderful software.

Hi Art,

Not sure if the recent reply has got through as I had some problems with the attachmen t. so here it is again.

All files relate to an 18 tooth AT10 pulley.

Thanks

Hi Guys,
I have been generatin g timing pulley profiles using the T10SE and T10N selection s hoping either (or both) would generate a suitable pulley for use with an AT10 belt and I'm not having much success. When I cut the DXF profile in MDF using a 50 watt laser cutter the AT10 belt I've got doesn't fit into either profile. The belt is a quality belt and unlikely to be faulty.

I downloade d an AT10 profile from 3Dcontent central and that fits my belt correctly .

While I could use the 3Dcontent central profile there is not as much flexibily as using gearotic. For example I am using pulleys with more than 100 teeth - very time consuming to generate using the 3Dcontent central profile.

Is there someting wrong with T10SE and T10N or is AT10 a completel y different profile?

9  General Category / Suggestions for Future / Spur Gears and Non Circular Gears on same shaft centres on: November 04, 2010, 03:44:52 PM
Hi Guys,
I met with John S at the Midlands Engineeri ng Show and we discussed enhanceme nts to gearotic. John, the engineer, wants practical solutions which can be implement ed in the real world by cutting real gears. I sit half way wanting engineeri ng solutions as well as kinematic art so my enhanceme nt request would be for some sort of "GOAL SEEKING" wizard - so "proper gears" could share the same shaft centres as non circular gears - in other words it would be great to be able to have spur gears at say, 75mm shaft centres, and be able to model/design non circular gears to share the same shaft centres. Is this an impossibl e enhanceme nt request?

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry it's me again but having solved the problem of using my licensed version on Vista Ultimate I now find myself with a problem using the same licence on XP 2002 SP3 on my laptop.

Version 1.61 gives me the error message "Acquistio n Error 2 Contact Support" and just loads the demo version while version 1.63.3 doesn't display an error message but again loads the demo version.

In both instances the licence.d at file has been copied into the C:\Program Files\Gearotic Motion folder.

Hi Guys

Is it possible to use the license on more than one computer?

My reasoning is that while experimen ting with GM I loaded the licence onto my desktop whereas in everyday use I'd prefer to use my laptop.

Hi Guys,

I purchased a licence via PayPal and have not yet received it. Please can you confirm receipt of payment.

Thanks

Art,

If I run the program in "Administr ator" mode, with compatibi lty mode switched off, then the text displays OK.

How strange is that then?
