Title: Clubfoot Escapement
Post by: ArtF on November 20, 2019, 12:50:46 PM
Hi All:

A new module is released in Vexx for building drop in replaceme nt
Clubfoot escapemen ts. There is a video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCecIIlC9d4&feature=youtu.be
showing how to use it. This type of escapemen t is known to be easier to machine as it has no pointy
teeth so wooden versions are more stable.

Thx
Art

Art,

Thanks as ALWAYS !+!

I installed the latest (clubfoot) version, but now, when pressing the VEXX icon I get the problem/error message that MSVCR120D.dll is missing.
I have a lot of MSVCR120. dll's on my PC but not this "D" version.

I also have the DLL issue...W indows 10, 64.   Is there any way to download an earlier version of the software?

I've uninstall ed the software and then did a clean install of the developme ntal Gearotics & Augie...t he problem still existed.

I now know that Vexx is part of the Gearotics installat ion file.  I did another clean install with the "stable" version of Gearotics and Vexx worked.

The versions that I now have:
       Gearotics  3.07
       Vexx   2.23
       Augie 3.65

I have a comment regarding Win10 and virus detection that I'll post under an appropria te topic rather than here.

Hi All:

New version is uploaded. Re download and the Vexx problem should be solved. Inadverte ntly a debug version of
a new dll was used. SO unless you had the D.dll version of the Microsoft run-time it failed. This version should run alright.
Sorry for the headaches .

As to virus warning, I may try simply changing the name of the download, that seems to have worked
with Auggie when it was named AuggieSet up, simply renaming it to CoInstall .exe stopped the virus warnings.

I downloade d the new version and as expected it works.   By the way, I don't think that the name of the program has any bearing on it being flagged as a virus.

Bill:

 You wouldn't think, but a while back I found I couldn't download Auggie's install
program as reported by a user. Wondering if there was a connectio n, I renamed it
to coinstall .exe, and have never had another complaint on it, and my chome could
then download it as well.

The thinking was that some AI somewhere linked the program name to a danger flag..

 Either way, hasnt returned. :)

Hi Art
I'm having trouble getting the latest Vexx to open with error message "..... nlopt.dll not found"

Tried redownloa ding Gerortic and Auggie several times to no effect.

Hi John:

Sorry about that, nlopt is a new addition in the code so I may have missed something .

Can you tell me, is the file nlopt.dll in the Gearotic folder? Which method of install do you use,
the Setup.exe or the .msi installer?

Thx

John:

One further question, if you unzip the file attachmen t to this message ( nlopt.dll ) and put it in the
Gearotic folder with Vexx, does it now run?

Thx
Art

Hi Art
I use the Gearotic setup for installin g.  I have re-installed the program several times as well as the coinstall download.

my gearotic motion file already contained a nlopt.dll but I replaced it with the file you sent.  Still not working.

Vexx is now looking for MSVR120.d ll  and this file IS NOT in my gearotic motion folder.

could you send me that one?

John:

Thats odd. Thats a C++ runtime file, its not one gearotic installs.
Did you try running the C Runtime installer ? VC_Redist X... in your folder?

John:

You will need a runtime dependent on your version of windows ( 32 bit or 64 bit).
This page has the downloads for VS2017, 32 bit and 64 bit. Try installin g the one appropria te
for your system, let me know if it succeeds.

Sorry John:

Your error for MSVR120.d ll missing indicates you need the runtime gearotic uses.
This can be gotten from the same page listed as

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistrib utable 2013

Gearotics install should give you the option of running the one in the program, but
probably best to try a fresh one from microsoft .

FYI:

The clubfoot module will be upgraded in a week or two to have impulse pallet, fork
and dart for those that would like to take that escapemen t to the next level.

How do all these VC++ runtimes play together?  Is just the latest one good enough, or do you end up needing all the sort of annual variants?

Kirk:

Typically, you only need the one for the compiler used. Gearotic uses one, and Vexx another while Auggie shares Vexx's.
You normally never need to worry about it again if bitten, and most who have any number of apps will have copies of each
installed anyway, I guess its why it rarely comes up.

I am an amateur watchmake r and work mainly on pocket watches. I created a Hamilton gear train in Gearotic and used a pinwheel type escapemen t. After a bit of research, I was able to go into Vexx and replace a gear that was the escapemen t with the club foot escapemen t I  Vexx.  All good, however, i was really looking placing a full escapemen t with a balance and roller table all moving within Gearotic. I then discovere d Auggie.  It was not integrate d into Gearotic or Vexx,  but it provided the ability to fully simulate an escapemen t. I have not don't this yet, however I will start this week. Now the challenge is to somehow get this escapemen t into Vexx or directly into my Hamilton gear train. Here is the youtube of the Hamilton gear train I created only days after purchasin g Gearotic. The long term aim is to be able to cut vintage gears.

Thanks for the video, its nice to see such a project work.

You will have trouble using Auggies simulator, it can be done, others have also done
clockwork s in it, but Auggies simulator was an experimen t I ran to see what things I
would have to worry about if I underwent a project for gear simulatio n using physics
rather than linkage ratio timing.
As such its a little unweildly . I am currently investiga ting that topic for a proposed
future expansion but it will be some time before one will be released.  I have a few
requests for orrery and rotating planet capabilit y and I hope to do something this year
in that area.

 Good work on the watch..
